1. What was the best thing that happened at school today? (What was the worst thing that happened at school today?)

2. Tell me something that made you laugh today.

3. If you could choose, who would you ...more

About Ms. Karabel

I am so excited to have you and your child in my classroom this year! This is my sixth year as a kindergarten teacher at Rockdale. We have a lot to learn in kindergarten.  We will use a combination of hands on learning and paper pencil activities. Our goal in kindergarten is to teach your children to LOVE school and of course to prepare them with the tools they need to be successful throughout their school career.  I want to make learning fun and enjoyable as well as meaningful. When I am not at school, I am spending time with my husband, my five year old son, Harry and my baby girl, Eve.

How Can I Help At Home?

Talk to your child about what we are doing at school each day.  We have songs for all that we learn, see if your child can sing those songs.  Practice counting, use flashcards and practice words, numbers and letters.  Try to see how fast your child can recognize these.  Read every day to and with your child.  For example, if you see the words: to, a, the, I, am, little, she, of... let your child read these words.  Talk about the pictures and how they match with the words.  Track the words from left to right.  Ask questions about the book: who are the characters, where does this story take place (setting), ask about any details they can recall, how the characters feel, and any questions that check for understanding.

Artist Study : Jackson Pollock

We pinned up a large piece of butcher paper outside, set out the containers of thinned paint and some large brushes. Each child patiently took turns 'throwing paint', understanding that Jackson Pollock himself never used brush strokes. The amazing thing about this project is that anything goes and each child was free to throw paint in any way they wanted.
